What is mold
Mold is a type of fungi that can be found almost anywhere outdoors in the world and where the temperature exceeds 39 degrees Fahrenheit. It requires a food source, moisture and minimal lighting is ideal for development. They come in almost any color (black is typically the most harmful) and shape and can be hazardous to your health or even be edible. Mold can easily grow within 24 to 48 hours, and will begin to colonize in 1 to 12 days. Mold can typically be noticed by its smell of which is the airborne spores it produces. People can be affected by this exposure and suffer from headaches, watery and itchy eyes, or other respiratory health problems.

Mold remediation
There are many remediation companies who specialize in the removal and clean-up of mold. It is a process similar to the removal of asbestos or other hazardous material where there is containment, white suits and machinery running. Tests are usually done to determine the extent and type of mold and then posts tests to make sure the levels are acceptable or lower than the outdoors. Costs is usually in the thousands of dollars and typically covered by your insurance company.

Mold claims As stated above, mold is typically covered by the insurance companies, but as long as it is a result of a covered peril, such as a water pipe break or roof leak. Mold growth in itself are usually not covered by an insurance policy. The typical coverage amount is $10,000 and up to a $50,000 limit and for an additional premium. With this limitation on coverage, the policies usually read that mold testing, removal of the mold, and the materials they are attached to, be under the limit. In addition to removal, the limits shall include to put back the same materials and also any other coverage that may be incurred. IE, contents and additional living expenses.
